Bensley Mourns Death Of Life Member, Past President
CHESTER, Virginia – July 10, 2007 – With great sadness, the Bensley-Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad joins in mourning with the family of Jeffrey R. Fender, who lost his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 7, 2007.
Fender, a life member of the Squad, served in a variety of leadership roles during his long tenure with the department. He served as president of the Squad, worked diligently on the department's finance committee, and provided many thousands of hours of service to the community on the Squad's volunteer ambulances.
"I will tell you he was a caring, dedicated individual, who very much loved his family and his squad, and will be sadly missed by those of us who knew him," said Gary Frame, President of BBVRS. "Please keep Jeff and his family in your prayers."
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday July 10, 2007 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Bp. Troy Kaichen officiating. Interment to follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23058 or Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond VA 23226.
